Welcome to St Mary's CE First School and Nursery. I hope you find our website a useful insight into our school and that it provides all the information you may need. My name is Mr J Thorne and I am Deputy Headteacher at St Mary's and I am responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the school.
In April 2011, St Mary's CE First School federated with Brewood CE Middle School and is under the overall leadership of an Executive Headteacher and joint Governing Body. There have been many benefits of this including:
- Improved liaison, transition and continuity between the two schools
- Shared staffing and governor expertise and best practice
- Improved tracking of pupil progress across both schools and
- Greater sharing of resources.
Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions you will have to make and as a parent you will want the very best. The governors and staff have high expectations of our pupils, regardless of their ability, and are committed to providing a high quality education for all.
We have a dedicated team of staff who all work together and support the learning process. In return, we expect the children to work hard, show respect for others and their surroundings. We are committed to the children developing a love of learning that they will carry through to their adult life. We believe that working in close partnership with parents and carers will not only help to ensure high standards of achievement and behaviour but also give each child the best possible education to give them the confidence to achieve their full potential.
Our mission is to educate our pupils within a safe, happy, caring Christian environment where all are valued and encouraged to fulfil their potential in all aspects of school life. Everyone is committed to our school motto:
'Helping each other to do our best'
The school works closely with all partner First Schools, Penkridge Middle and Wolgarston High School as a member of the Collaboration of schools on a range of joint projects and shared staff development.
St Mary's is a spacious school with extensive school grounds. Over the last few years there have been many improvements to learning provision with the creation of a new Governor led Nursery, Breakfast and Outdoor Club in 2013 and a new Early Years' Unit in September 2016. There have also been many improvements to the outdoor learning environment with the creation of new soft play surfaces and the purchase of an outdoor canopy. Parents and volunteers have also recently helped improve outdoor learning areas including our pond, bushcraft area, spirituality garden and environmental area.
Undoubtedly, the best way to discover more about the school is to visit us. Please call the school office if you would like to arrange a visit or if you have any questions about the school.
I look forward to meeting you and welcoming your child to St Mary's CE First School and Nursery.
